School Bus Woes

"I sat by the girl with the mini ketchup bottle again yesterday." This is how Reese started her conversation with me this morning over breakfast.
She's been having anxiety over her morning bus rides to school. Her best friend in the neighborhood has started sitting with a friend from her own grade/class and Ashlynn wants to sit with her own friends as well. Reese said that this leaves her sitting with people she doesn't know and it makes her stomach hurt. One day she sat next to a fifth grade girl who had a mini ketchup bottle in her hands. The girl opened up the bottle, put some ketchup on her finger and ate it. Reese was almost gagging when she told me this and said that seeing it made her stomach hurt even more.
EWW....
Ashlynn's been trying to figure out who this fifth grader is and Reese's only descriptive helps are: her hair is in a wacky braid every day and she has a brother in kindergarten. I guess the girl didn't have her ketchup bottle yesterday but Reese still didn't want to sit with her.

Oh Reese, poor girl. I used to get those stomach aches riding the bus in junior high. How unfun for a first grader (yikes! you are still first grade, right?)

I agree with the Ewww. Reese should just start asking her questions - what are you doing? what other stuff do you like? where did you get such a small bottle? etc. Finding out about other people and talking with them makes them less scarily weird. If you can laugh about something - voila! no longer a scary person. Yeah, great advice from someone who would never do the same thing as even a seventh grader...

But maybe if you made up a list of questions together at home, just thinking about what she MIGHT ask would help her feel better about the situation.

That's pretty funny. I think you need to give Reese a small bottle of ketchup for her birthday. :) Oh...drama on the bus.

Poor Reese! Just a note for you...When grandma Bringk was Reese's age she would tighten her belt until she got sick so she could avoid school. So if she starts wearing a belt....

Could she sneak an MP3 player in her backback and listen to her favorite song? My kids wear them when they walk to school and they love it...

in the meantime, tree pose is good!
Poor little cutie!
